‎So avoid using the word ‘very’ because it’s lazy. A man is not very tired, he is exhausted. Don’t use very sad, use morose. Language was invented for one reason, boys - to woo women - and, in that endeavor, laziness will not do.

Here’s my talk from yesterday. I felt the Holy Ghost change direction mid-week on the topic of, “Is God Good”? I didn’t really want to preach this - I realize that I’m inept in my abilities as a preacher and a theologian. Most of this was borrowed from John Frame.

Here’s the deal - can we really say God is good if we haven’t looked at the problem of evil?

Dan Savage vs. the Bible (and Some High Schoolers)

A couple weeks ago, Dan Savage, the sex columnist, activist, and editorial director of Seattle alt weekly The Stranger, was invited to speak at the National High School Journalism Convention in Seattle. Savage is the force behind the “It Gets Better” videos, a series of messages from gay adults — and, later, straight ones including President Obama — to bullied gay teens, which were intended to discourage suicide. Somewhat more mischievously, and less G-ratedly, he also led the charge to propagate a rather filthy sexual meaning for “Santorum” as punishment for Rick Santorum’s anti-gay politics.

In the course of his talk about bullying, Savage pointed out anti-gay activists sometimes cite the Bible to justify their beliefs and behavior. He then went on to point out that the Bible sanctions any number of activities we don’t allow today, including slavery and the stoning of women who are not virgins when married (the full text, if you don’t want to watch the video, ishere), strictures he referred to as “bullshit.” In protest, some (presumably) Christian members of the audience walked out. As he wrapped up the inflammatory section of his remarks, Savage apologized for offending anyone, but undercut that apology somewhat by adding, “It’s funny, as someone who’s on the receiving end of beatings that are justified by the Bible, how pansy-assed some people react when you push back.”

C’mon, Atlantic - grow a spine. If a conservative journalist had referred to a LGBTQ response to his inappropriate and inflammatory comments at a talk on bullying with “pansy-assed” you would be up in arms over the issue. Keep journalism neutral and quit pandering to the cultural bias.

Decline or Decadence?

America is suffering from a lack of mastery over its own riches.

As America re-examines its military, entitlements, energy sources, and popular culture, it will learn that our “decline” is not due to material shortages, but rather arises from moral confusion over how to master, rather than being mastered by, the vast riches we have created.

William Lane Craig is literally my favorite person on the face of the earth.

“Two fallacious arguments put together don’t make a sound argument.” HAHAHAHA.

Bill Craig debated Atkins again recently and it was hands down one of the worst performances by an atheist in a debate on the existence of God that I’ve seen. He’s awful. Peter Millican did the best by far of any atheist I’ve seen who’s debated Craig.

I always watch this clip to hear the moderator say “put that in your pipe and smoke it”.

Are Mormons Christians? ...(no)

Please understand that just because somebody self identifies as a Christian, there are orthodox beliefs held by Christians that may, in fact, invalidate their claim.
