To quote Kaspersky Labs security researchers Sergey Golovanov and Igor Soumenkov at the conclusion of their detailed analysis of TDL-4, “the decentralized, server-less botnet is practically indestructible.”

Stuxnet: Anatomy of a Computer Virus
This is fascinating and absolutely terrifying.
This is a good primer on Stuxnet, however, some of the virus’ complexities weren’t discussed - it really is fascinating how this virus had a rootkit targeted at programmable logic controllers (the things that make machines work) and how it was written to evolve and mutate based on the media that it was infecting in order to infiltrate its target (i.e. one form on a USB hard drive, another form on a network device). It’s terrifying to consider that any country out there (cough cough CHINA cough cough) can manufacture electronics that have this exploit built into its devices that can execute this code on demand.

An attempt at redesigning this chart from The Guardian to make the plaintiffs and defendants a bit more clear.
Nice. I wonder what this will look like after the Windows 7 devices come out. it’s also odd that nobody has sued Microsoft (yet) and that Oracle and Google are duking it out alone.
